Sprout Helps REI Realize Its Facebook Fan Page Potential

Wednesday, December 2nd, 2009

REI logoBack in October, REI approached Sprout about a Facebook strategy that would help them introduce new fans to REI and keep established fans engaged, updated, and connected with the REI community. Sprout designed and built a Facebook Fan Page for REI that launched on October 16th.

Before partnering with Sprout on their Facebook Fan Page, REI felt like they didn’t have a solid way to grab new Fan Page visitors’ attention. Sprout used the assets provided by REI to create a bold-looking page that grabs users’ attention and encourages them to interact. To attract new fans, REI hoped to use their Fan Page to make a statement as more than a retailer. With that goal in mind, Sprout included expert advice, contests that gave fans a chance to get involved, and content from REI’s Twitter feed, YouTube videos, and Flickr photo streams on the page. REI wanted their fan page to help them achieve their retail goals, too, so Sprout implemented an REI Outlet deal of the day feature as well. The expert advice and deal of the day features have proved most popular on Facebook, helping REI to achieve two important objectives: educating new and old fans alike about the unique facets of REI that make them more than just a retailer, and boosting retail sales. What are users actually doing on Facebook?

Thursday, September 24th, 2009

Facebook recently announced that they’ve surpassed 300 million active users.  It is my understanding that “active users” means that they have logged into Facebook within the last month.  Another interesting statistic is that half of all users are logging in to the site on any given day.  The numbers don’t lie, Facebook is becoming the ubiquitous social network, and much to Mark Zuckerberg’s liking, a platform that is changing the way people communicate.

5 Facebook Fan Pages with Custom and Engaging Content

Thursday, September 17th, 2009

Screen shot 2009-09-18 at 12.48.35 AMIn my last post about Facebook Fan Pages I walked you through the basic elements of a Fan Page and how each of those elements works.  One section of the post which is relatively open-ended is the section about additional content and applications.  This content is basically everything but the basic Facebook functionality (info, wall, photos, video).  Since it doesn’t fall under the norms and structure of standard Facebook content, you see a wide range in the variety of content.  In this post, I will feature 5 Fan Pages that are taking full advantage of this open-ended section of Facebook Fan Pages.  (All of the images below link to the actual tab that I am discussing for reference).

Saturday, September 12th, 2009

fan page diagram 1This is the first post in a series of posts about Facebook Fan pages. At this point, I hope you have come to understand that value of a Facebook Fan Page (also called a public profile, brand page, etc – but in my posts I will refer to them as “Fan Pages” or “Pages”).  The purpose of this post is to show the various elements of a Fan Page and the various properties to those elements.  I will use visuals and examples where needed. If you are keen to learn about Fan Pages but first need to learn the basics of Fan Pages, please spend a few moments reading Facebook’s Fan Page information.
