Facebook recently announced that they’ve surpassed 300 million active users. It is my understanding that “active users” means that they have logged into Facebook within the last month. Another interesting statistic is that half of all users are logging in to the site on any given day. The numbers don’t lie, Facebook is becoming the ubiquitous social network, and much to Mark Zuckerberg’s liking, a platform that is changing the way people communicate.

In my last post about Facebook Fan Pages I walked you through the basic elements of a Fan Page and how each of those elements works. One section of the post which is relatively open-ended is the section about additional content and applications. This content is basically everything but the basic Facebook functionality (info, wall, photos, video). Since it doesn’t fall under the norms and structure of standard Facebook content, you see a wide range in the variety of content. In this post, I will feature 5 Fan Pages that are taking full advantage of this open-ended section of Facebook Fan Pages. (All of the images below link to the actual tab that I am discussing for reference).

In the second Sprout Conversations, I am joined by Steve Richo, who is a Sprout power-user and the co-founder of Noise New Media. Steve has created some very impressive sprouts and is constantly pushing the envelope of our platform. During our conversation, we discuss how he found sprout, how he is using it today and what the next big trends in social promotions are. I also introduced a new segment to this interview that I call the “Hot Seat” where I propose two pop culture entities and you must choose one. For example, “Kanye West or Taylor Swift?”

This is the first post in a series of posts about Facebook Fan pages. At this point, I hope you have come to understand that value of a Facebook Fan Page (also called a public profile, brand page, etc – but in my posts I will refer to them as “Fan Pages” or “Pages”). The purpose of this post is to show the various elements of a Fan Page and the various properties to those elements. I will use visuals and examples where needed. If you are keen to learn about Fan Pages but first need to learn the basics of Fan Pages, please spend a few moments reading Facebook’s Fan Page information.

This is the first of a series called, “Sprout Conversations” where I interview designers using Sprout. We constantly see a ton of innovation and new ideas coming from designers using our products. That is why I want to truly understand and share how designers think, use and strategize with Sprout.
My guest for this episode is Gavin Conaty. Gavin is the founder and owner of Evalation and one of the very first Sprout customer. His team was working on Ben Harper’s web site and promotions when we initially launched Sprout Builder. We partnered with Gavin and the Ben Harper web team to create one of the very first sprouts. You can see that particular sprout in our launch video from DEMO08. I hope you enjoy our conversation.

Guest blog post by: Michael A. Britt, Ph.D.
I’ve been a college teacher for about 20 years now and I wish Sprout Builder was around when I started out. I discovered Sprouts a few years ago when I needed a widget for my website and I’ve seen the capabilities of Sprouts grow to the point where I’m convinced it could be the kind of teaching tool educators have been asking for for a long time. There are a lot of potential uses for Sprouts in education, but I’m really excited about this one: creating online projects. (more…)

On Tuesday, 8/18/2009, Sprout hosted our second social media summit in Los Angeles. Over 65 social media connoisseurs were in attendance to view presentations by Myspace, Schematic and Sprout. As to be expected with a social media summit, the presentations were short but the questions and answer were long and engaging. The questions ranged from personal vs. co-branding to running Facebook contest and everything in between.
