I recently had a conversation with Walter Gross, the Senior Director, Digital Strategy at EMI / Capitol Music Group about how his team of Flash developers / designers are using Sprout to create interactive Flash content quickly and efficiently. Walter has been immersed in the web and Flash design tools since the late ’90s, at a time when, as he puts it, was bombarded by “big and glitzy” Flash elements. Before Walter’s team had discovered Sprout, they were creating all of the content by hand-coding each element. Sprout has turned out to be a huge time-saver and made Walter’s team more efficient.
On 10/13/2009 the Huffington Post launched an article titled, “Help The Steins: Mother Who Went Blind To Save Her Children’s Sight Struggles With Medical Debt” which chronicled the struggle of a mother who couldn’t raise the funds necessary to support her child’s unique medical needs. Traditionally, in order to raise funds for a cause it was necessary to provide an address or a bank where contributors could send money. Sprout Builder removes this barrier with the ChipIn component.
In this Sprout Conversation, I am joined by Josh Rhinehart who is a creative art director for the music promotions company, Music Allies. Being a creative designer, Josh has pushed the boundaries of our platform and created some of the most impressive sprouts. I have included some of Josh’s sprouts below.
Joe Stump, a former Digg PHP developer, is now doing side projects and came out with a service on top of the twitter API called Tweetimag.es. This service makes it easier to pull Twitter profile images and in a way that prevents the image from breaking when a user changes their profile image. It also makes it easier to pull multiple sizes of the profile images. This got me thinking…how can we use this in Sprout Builder so that users can create custom Twitter sprouts with more flexibility. After pinging some of the Sprout developers, there was a simple solution that made this possible.
In our third Sprout Conversations, I had the opportunity to chat with Mark Delville, the co-founder of TxtMovieClub. Mark is an entrepreneur and Sprout power-user who is constantly leveraging social tools to grow his companies. Listen to our conversation to learn more about how Mark uses Sprout.
Facebook recently announced that they’ve surpassed 300 million active users. It is my understanding that “active users” means that they have logged into Facebook within the last month. Another interesting statistic is that half of all users are logging in to the site on any given day. The numbers don’t lie, Facebook is becoming the ubiquitous social network, and much to Mark Zuckerberg’s liking, a platform that is changing the way people communicate.
In my last post about Facebook Fan Pages I walked you through the basic elements of a Fan Page and how each of those elements works. One section of the post which is relatively open-ended is the section about additional content and applications. This content is basically everything but the basic Facebook functionality (info, wall, photos, video). Since it doesn’t fall under the norms and structure of standard Facebook content, you see a wide range in the variety of content. In this post, I will feature 5 Fan Pages that are taking full advantage of this open-ended section of Facebook Fan Pages. (All of the images below link to the actual tab that I am discussing for reference).
