YouTube Player In Sprout Builder UPGRADED!

YouTube Logo

Sprout’s video player has been upgraded to better support YouTube videos by integrating their newly released AS3 Chromeless player.

Improvements include better playback quality and reliability. You’ll also notice there is now a YouTube logo which appears in the bottom right corner of the player (as it is does in all YouTube videos). In addition, the YouTube play button will appear in the center of the poster-frame image before the video starts playing, rather than our custom play button. When you pause, however, you’ll see our custom button.

There is one minor issue that we’ll be trying to resolve shortly involving the poster-frame. Currently, the poster frame is not showing up and the first image in the player is simply black. Also, when paused the image will be black. We’re working with YouTube to resolve this issue.

Responses

  • Oh, this is so annoying. Sprout still appears not to allow the default 16:9 aspect ratio of youtube videos. I’m stuck with 4:3 with letterboxing!

  • @ben unfortunately there is a bug that is preventing us to display videos in the 16:9 aspect ratio. We will push the fix once the bug is resolved, sorry about any inconvenience.

  • Are viewed videos with in a Sprout counted as a “view” by the YouTube counter? Are the views counted towards the “royalty-paid-views.” I have a few record label clients that are asking?

  • @eddy Yes, the views that happen in the Sprout YouTube player are counted as normal views in the YouTube counter. We can only assume that this counts as “royalty” views as well. If you need an absolute answer, please reach out to YouTube directly and let them know that you are using the “YouTube AS3 Chromeless Player” – hope this helps!
