Sprout Publisher Launches With Disney

Wednesday, September 30th, 2009

AlienToday we’re launching a new product for Facebook called Sprout Publisher that provides Facebook fan page administrators with a better means of starting conversations with their fans. Administrators can now reach fans with highly interactive content and applications that display in the fan page feed and in the fans’ personal activity streams, without the need for fans to add the application.

We’re proud to launch this new product with Disney, whose ‘Gift an Alien’ campaign is live and populating Facebook. Here’s where you can find the Gift an Alien on campaign Facebook.

Please take our Sprout Builder survey.

Tuesday, September 29th, 2009

We’re conducting a quick survey because understanding how the Sprout community uses Sprout Builder is essential to improving the product. The survey is short and should take less than 5 minutes to complete. The purpose is to help us understand how you use Sprout Builder and how we can better support our community online.

To sweeten the deal, we’re offering a 3-month chocolate subscription from San Francisco’s own TCHO chocolates.

Using Tweetimag.es to display custom Twitter avatars in Sprout

Tuesday, September 29th, 2009

Joe Stump, a former Digg PHP developer, is now doing side projects and came out with a service on top of the twitter API called Tweetimag.es.  This service makes it easier to pull Twitter profile images and in a way that prevents the image from breaking when a user changes their profile image.  It also makes it easier to pull multiple sizes of the profile images.  This got me thinking…how can we use this in Sprout Builder so that users can create custom Twitter sprouts with more flexibility.   After pinging some of the Sprout developers, there was a simple solution that made this possible.

Case Study: Rock The Space

Monday, September 28th, 2009

RTS logoThe results from the Rock The Space campaign are now in and we’ve wrapped them up in a new case study about our work with Saatchi and Saatchi and Schematic for MySpace and Toyota.

Rock the Space was a music competition, which invited bands to enter a digital demo-tape contest for a chance to win a MySpace Music recording contract, prizes and promotion on MySpace’s home page. This campaign exceeded everyone’s expectations and blew the initial submission goal out of the water within hours of the contest launch.

Sprouts load faster.

Thursday, September 24th, 2009

In the 2.4 release we made a number of improvements to the sprout loading process which speed things up for all sprouts. However, an additional benefit is obtained by sprouts that are published after the 2.4 release (late night, Pacific time, on September 20). So for older sprouts we encourage you to simply login and republish your sprout to upgrade it.

Please leave a comment if you notice the difference.

What are users actually doing on Facebook?

Thursday, September 24th, 2009

Facebook recently announced that they’ve surpassed 300 million active users.  It is my understanding that “active users” means that they have logged into Facebook within the last month.  Another interesting statistic is that half of all users are logging in to the site on any given day.  The numbers don’t lie, Facebook is becoming the ubiquitous social network, and much to Mark Zuckerberg’s liking, a platform that is changing the way people communicate.

We’ll announce that in another blog post  when it’s up and running. Also, we’re working on improving the format of the notes. If you’ve got comments or suggestions please send them our way via our contact page.

5 Facebook Fan Pages with Custom and Engaging Content

Thursday, September 17th, 2009

Screen shot 2009-09-18 at 12.48.35 AMIn my last post about Facebook Fan Pages I walked you through the basic elements of a Fan Page and how each of those elements works.  One section of the post which is relatively open-ended is the section about additional content and applications.  This content is basically everything but the basic Facebook functionality (info, wall, photos, video).  Since it doesn’t fall under the norms and structure of standard Facebook content, you see a wide range in the variety of content.  In this post, I will feature 5 Fan Pages that are taking full advantage of this open-ended section of Facebook Fan Pages.  (All of the images below link to the actual tab that I am discussing for reference).
